Beyond Bitcoin: Spot ETFs for Solana and XRP Open a New Chapter for Crypto Funds

After bitcoin and ether, a fresh wave of spot exchange-traded funds for altcoins such as Solana and XRP has reached the US market, opening crypto to mainstream investors through familiar brokerage accounts.

For years the story of crypto on Wall Street was really a story about just two coins. Now a wider cast is arriving, as spot exchange-traded funds tied to altcoins such as Solana and XRP have found their way onto the US market and into ordinary brokerage accounts.

From two coins to many

The first spot crypto funds in the United States were built around bitcoin, later joined by ether. Those two assets defined the early era of regulated crypto investing, and for a long stretch they were effectively the only game in town for fund investors.

That narrow lineup has now widened. By late 2025, altcoins including Solana and XRP had joined the roster of assets available through approved spot ETFs, extending the reach of regulated crypto products well beyond the original pair that started it all.

For everyday investors the appeal is largely about convenience and comfort. A spot ETF lets someone gain exposure to a digital asset through a normal brokerage account, without wrestling with crypto exchanges, private keys or the wallets that can intimidate newcomers.

A faster path through the regulator

New listing standards have shortened the road from filing to a live crypto fund.
New listing standards have shortened the road from filing to a live crypto fund.

Part of what unlocked this wave was a change in how the funds are cleared. According to reporting on the sector, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved a set of generic listing standards in September 2025 that streamlined the way new crypto ETFs come to market.

The practical effect was speed. Those standards are reported to have cut approval timelines from a matter of months to as little as around seventy-five days in some cases, allowing issuers to bring altcoin products to the market far more quickly than before.

The regulatory posture toward XRP mattered as well. Its spot funds are reported to have launched in November 2025 after a commodity classification helped remove some of the legal hurdles that had long hung over the token and its issuer.

XRP and Solana step onto the stage

The XRP launch was not a token gesture from a single firm. According to the same reporting, seven spot XRP funds are now live, from issuers that include Canary, Bitwise and Franklin Templeton, giving investors a real choice of providers rather than a single option.

Early demand was meaningful without being explosive. XRP spot ETFs are reported to have gathered roughly 1.44 billion dollars in their first stretch, a figure that points to genuine appetite while still sitting well below the sums that greeted the first bitcoin funds.

More recent flows have cooled along with the wider market. In one recent week the XRP funds are reported to have taken in about 8.2 million dollars, a modest number that nonetheless edged slightly ahead of what comparable Solana products drew over the same period.

Some of the Solana products carry an extra feature that sets them apart. Certain funds have been built with staking enabled, an arrangement that can pass a form of yield to holders and gives those vehicles a different character from a plain price-tracking fund.

What it means, and what to watch

Taken together, the arrivals mark a shift in how mainstream finance treats digital assets. The question is no longer whether a coin can get a fund at all, but which tokens clear the bar and how much lasting demand they can actually hold onto.

For readers the sensible posture is curiosity paired with caution. These funds make crypto easier to buy, but they do nothing to soften the volatility of the assets underneath, and early inflows are a snapshot of sentiment rather than a promise of where prices head next.
